Nick Cannon: A Juggling Businessman
September 3, 2009 1 Comment
Nick Cannon is a sensitive guy. That’s why he was recently tapped to be a spokesman for AXE, the company that markets all of those fragrant body sprays to guys.
I spoke one-on-one with the host of “America’s Got Talent” and asked him about his role with AXE, love and life with Mariah Carey and new projects he’s got brewing …
Q. Tell me about your role with AXE skin care products.
A. “I am like a spokesman for AXE products because I’m in touch with my sensitive side. I have no problem being seen as senstive. I’m not Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington, so I’ve got to be in touch with my sensitive side to have something to offer. I try to have a positive outlook and make my grandma proud. I’ve been DJing parties for AXE and going from city to city like Los Angeles and San Francisco to promote the new sensitive skin care line.”
Q. How do you show your sensitive side with your wife Mariah?
A. “Oh man, I show her my sensitive side daily. I write cards for her and I personalize each greeting card. I’ve been doing that ever since I met her. I give her about one card a week to remind her how much I love her.”
Q. I hear you’ll be making your directorial debut with “School Girls.” Congrats! What’s it all about? “
A. I directed a movie called “School Gyrls” and put together an all girl music group by the same name. I wrote the movie, wrote the music as well, and I put the band together. My new group is like TLC meets the Spice Girls. Their first single should drop soon, it’s called “Something Like a Party. I’m more trying to be the executive right now. I’m all about making the stars!”
Q. OK, let’s talk about “America’s Got Talent.” What’s up with all the free chest hair the Hoff and Piers Morgan keep throwing at us each week?
A. They are just out there. It’s a battle of the testosterone with them. That’s some middle age white man stuff I’ll never understand. (laughs)
Q. You appeared on the Conan O’Brien show (very funny!) and mentioned that you were able to speak into existence your romance with Mariah Carey and even DJing Barack Obama’s inaugural party. Is there anything else you have your mind set on?
A. ”I’m not a good juggler, but I run Viacom Teen Nick. When I’m in New York City, I’m running a network and sitting with advertisers and developing shows. And it’s a full-time job. In addition, I’m producing some shows for MTV, including a new version of “Wildin’ Out.” It will be featuring younger kids and acts from a nationwide search. Stay tuned.”
