Cannon likes what he hears

Nick Cannon gave himself good marks for his debut yesterday as the morning host on WXRK (92.3 FM).

“My best first day ever,” he said. “I’ve sucked on all my other jobs on the first day, and I felt like I did pretty good on this day.”

Cannon’s first day had an unusual twist because 92.3 Now’s parent company, CBS, is running a Haiti relief drive that he promoted throughout the show. He also played a lot of music and interviewed Jay-Z, Young Jeezy and Trey Songz.

Cannon did the show mostly solo and at times didn’t sound entirely polished. But he did win a $20 bet with Perez Hilton thanks to some help from his wife, Mariah Carey.

Cannon’s challenge is to put a dent in morning institution Elvis Duran at WHTZ (100.3 FM).
