Nick defends Mariah on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Nick Cannon came to wife Mariah Carey’s defense last night on the first live (on the East Coast) episode of America’s Got Talent. It happened after contestant Sally Cohn, 75, hand-whistled a rendition of Maria’s Hero song:

“Great choice of song,” said Nick joining her on stage. “My wife just got another check. I appreciate that, Sally.”

He then turned to judge Piers Morgan for his opinion. “I was going to say, that’s THE best rendition of the song I’ve heard,” he said, ribbing Nick, “much more in tune than I’m used to hearing from a certain performer.”

Replied Nick: “She’s going to kick your a–.”

Meanwhile, we’re still trying to find out what happened to sword-swallowing, drill-bit-gulping Trystan and his fiancee Krystan who, it was announced by Sharon Osbourne last night, have withdrawn from the show. Of the 48 acts who’ve made it this far, 12 performed last night and four of those will move on to the next round. The show airs tonight on NBC at 9.
