Diamonds Take Centerstage at Oscars

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Diamonds, dripping on the fingers, wrists and ears of young Hollywood ingenues and cinema royalty alike, made their way down the red carpets as celebrities celebrated the 82nd Annual Academy Awards®. From the nominees to the presenters to the party hoppers, the stars showed off their diamonds in unique and youthful ways for the biggest night in film.

Diamonds went both edgy and glamorous as the world was introduced to the newest generation of Hollywood stars. “This year we saw the emergence of a new generation of actors who have embraced their individuality,” says Jamie Cadwell, Director of the Diamond Information Center. “They are using the red carpet to express their personal styles, whether vintage inspired or very modern, we are seeing diamonds used in an exciting variety of ways.”

A dazzling Anna Kendrick, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, continued her streak of old-Hollywood glam in Kwiat’s Diamond Pendant Earrings. Amanda Seyfried offset her ethereal gown with 250 carats of contrasting Brown, Champagne and Mint Diamond Geometric Bracelets by Lorraine Schwartz. Fan favorite Kristen Stewart went understated in a simple H. Stern Diamond Bracelet while Rachel McAdams went for perfect match in show stopping Natural Multi Color Diamond Earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.

Diamonds in the hair created a chic, yet unexpected look for red carpet regulars and freshman starlets alike. Presenter Elizabeth Banks accented her gown with a delicate Diamond Head Band by Fred Leighton, while Diane Kruger went floral in her Chanel Fine Jewelry Black and White Diamond Flower Hair Pin. Zoe Kravitz brought rock-and-roll to the Kodak by piling on the diamonds, finishing off her look with a stunning 19th Century Diamond Wing Brooch worn in her hair by Fred Leighton.

The most stunning diamond moment of the night came with Best Actress Nominee Carey Mulligan’s unbelievable 19th Century Cascading Diamond and Diamond Briolette Earrings perfectly paired with a delicate Everlon Diamond Knot Ring, all by Fred Leighton. “These earrings came into our collection a week before the Oscars,” says Rebecca Selva of Fred Leighton, “and from the moment we saw them we knew they were for Carey.”

Mariah And Nick Talk Fashion On Oscar Red Carpet

Monday, March 8th, 2010

For her role as social worker Miss Weiss in the Academy Award-nominated film “Precious,” Mariah Carey underwent a drastic make-under, sporting a mustache, mousey tresses and dowdy clothes that left the otherwise-glamorous singer nearly unrecognizable.

But, as any red-carpet-watcher would expect, Carey was nothing short of stunning when MTV News caught up with her and husband Nick Cannon at the Academy Awards, where the two joked about getting dressed for the big night.

“Of course, she tells me what she’s going to wear, and I go pull something out of the laundry hamper and iron it and put it on,” Cannon joked. “But she’s fabulous.”

“He doesn’t hardly iron a thing,” Carey laughed.

“Yeah, I don’t know how to iron,” Cannon admitted. “I’m surprised this isn’t wrinkled now.”

Carey’s purple gown clearly didn’t come out of a dirty-clothes hamper, but instead of trying on a slew of dresses from different designers, Carey streamlined her wardrobe-selection process by working directly with Valentino.

“We worked with them and did a lot of different sketches and stuff. We just thought it would be a nice moment, a leg moment for a different thing,” Carey said, good-naturedly referencing her frequently exposed décolletage.

“What if I had my leg out?” Nick asked.

“You could start a new trend,” Carey said.

“What if I had a split from the top of my pants?”

“You do you, man,” she said. “That’s why I love you.”

Mariah makes Nick Hold Her Breath Mint

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Mariah Carey spat out a breath mint on the red carpet – and made her hubby Nick Cannon hold on to it.

The actress – at the Academy Awards as part of the Precious cast – almost got in a fight with Cannon after he tried to decline taking the mint.

Cannon asked: “Do I have to hold the mint?”

Replied Carey: “I’d eat your mint but whatever …”

Cannon then took the mint and held it up to the camera, joking: “This is a normal husband and wife conversation.”

The rapper came in handy again when his wife’s diamond bracelet got caught in her plunging neckline on the Oscars red carpet.

Midway through an interview with Ryan Seacrest, she squealed: “Ooh, I’m caught. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”

Cannon stepped in to free her.

He had joked about how long it takes his wife to get ready, saying: “She has just like 1000 people making sure this perfection happens.”

*Personally I find this whole thing funny that they’re taking an innocent, funny, joking exchange and trying to blow it up  a bit and twist it into something serious, but the visual of this is pure gold comedy. Thanks to MCCLambNYC for the photofind

Nick Cannon Planning a Valentines getaway for Mariah

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Nick Cannon is 100% head over heels in love with his wife Mariah Carey. The two are inseparable, and he talked with Hollyscoop about what he does to keep her happy.

Despite all the rumors, the couple is not expecting a baby, though they both have expressed that they’d like to start trying. Nick told Hollyscoop he would keep us in the loop when it comes to any stork news. “I’ll let you know,” he assured us. “I’ll let Hollyscoop know the scoop when I’m scooping it.”

One thing Nick is sure about is Valentine’s Day. “That is one of my favorite days,” he confessed on the red carpet at the Grammy awards. “I’m a hopeless romantic. I have to shower my wife with something amazing.”

So what do you get the woman who seems to have it all…more bling bling? Nick refused to tell us, insisting his wife is an avid Hollyscoop reader, and didn’t want to ruin the surprise. “I’m not telling you my secret but I will let you know that is has to do with a getaway,” Nick dished.

Hmm, they just came back from Aspen, so it can’t be there. Perhaps Nick is planning a romantic getaway to the Jersey Shore? He is a fan after all. He told us, “Absolutely, that is MTV that is how I get down.”

For Mariah’s sake, we hope Nick opts for someplace a little more tropical! We can’t see Mariah dancing the night away at Karma!

Mary J. Blige, Lupe Fiasco & Nick Cannon Weigh in on the Grammy’s

Friday, January 29th, 2010

MTV News has already taken a look back at some of the oddest Grammy winners of all time, from former Soviet kingpin Mikhail Gorbachev to current White House top dog Barack Obama (not to mention schwing-tastic actress Tia Carrere). Now, with the 2010 awards just days away, it’s time to start looking toward this year’s show.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been asking artists who they think will win big, from perennial champs like Beyoncé to relative newcomers like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. Some were able to make choices, while others couldn’t decide between the talented women.

“It’s tough, because Beyoncé had a great, great year,” Mary J. Blige told us. “But Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga! But Taylor Swift — wow! That’s a tough one. I don’t know, but I wish all those ladies love.”

That was a sentiment echoed by many of the artists we spoke with, though in addition to praising Gaga and Beyoncé, John Legend pointed out, “There are a lot of country fans. Never underestimate the country fans.”

Nick Cannon, too, argued that the country star should have a big Grammy evening. “It’s Taylor Swift’s year,” he said. “Ev (more…)
