Nick: Mariah deserves a halo

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Nick did an interview with female teen magazine Alloy and also is candid footage from the screening at the Newseum in Washington, DC on Dec. 9, 2009.

Nick Cannon is no stranger to hosting and being in the limelight. But for one night, he’s giving the stage to four very special and inspirational teens at the Halo Awards. He scoured the country to find and surprise these motivational teens to give them the recognition they deserve. Keep reading to get more deets on this unique award show and find out who in his life he thinks deserves a Halo!

Tell us about the Halo Awards.
It’s where celebrities give awards to ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities or their world. It’s kind of flipping the whole awards show idea on its head and doing something that is extremely meaningful.

How did you come up with the idea?
I got tired of going to all these awards shows with just a bunch of celebrities kissing each other’s butts. There’s so much more going on in the world today. This age of change and this younger generation is what I was inspired by. And I think if I shed a light on young people that inspire me, maybe they can continue to inspire young people all across the world.

How’d you come up with the name?
We were just sitting around coming up with a bunch of different names and I was saying how the award is about young people helping and leading each other. And then halo, and what that word represents — it just kind of all clicked.

Is Beyoncé involved with the award in any way?
["Halo" is] an incredible song and it just fit perfectly, but that’s probably the only thing [she's involved with]. Maybe next year. This year, we got Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake, so that’s cool. (more…)

Cannon brings his goofy yet brilliant businessman swagger to DC

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

HALO Screening Newseum 12909 4Nick Cannon had his goofy-yet-brilliant businessman swagger on high last night in Washington, D.C. He and wife Mariah Carey, who arrived late wearing a lovely crimson evening gown, hosted a presentation of TeenNick’ HALO Awards at the Newseum. Although the two were busy co-hosting the screening, they still managed to steal an onstage smooch.

Top execs from MTV, VIACOM and Nickelodeon were in the building to pat Nick on the back and welcome him to their ranks. He’s the new president of TeenNick, a position he snagged by delivering two killer pitches in the same meeting.

“Nick and Nickelodeon go way back,” said Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon and MTV Networks’ Kids and Family Group. “But it’s still unusual for us at Nickelodeon to unanimously love and greenlight an idea on the spot. And even more unusual, even if we love Nick, to love two ideas in the same meeting.” (more…)
